Vince re-records Yazoo track

Vince Clarke has re-recorded the Yazoo track Chinese Detectives. The track, an instrumental, was used during the 1982 tour to rest Alisons voice and has never been released on any formats – except bootlegs. The Track is used on a short animated movie called Twenty Four Hour Woman by Scott Lenhardt and its a bit more, umm, swaggy, than the original … Watch and listen after the break

“Essential” – new Yazoo cd-album

EMI is releasing a new Yazoo album on March 19th called Yazoo – Essential, featuring 16 tracks from Upstairs At Eric’s and You And Me Both, including the odd choice I Before E Except After C, but excluding the single The Other Side Of Love. The album is part of a new Essential-series which also includes Erasure, Human League, Talk Talk, Ultravox and other gems. It’s possible to pre-order the album from Lexermusic. Alison Moyet – Queen of British pop

English television channel BBC just ran a two-part documentary called Queens of British Pop featuring, of course, Alison Moyet amongst others. The part about Alison is running around ten minutes and includes interviews with both Alison, Vince Clarke and Erasure-frontman Andy Bell. See video after the break.

A little short on the updates lately, but here’s an interesting one I first found via Alison Moyets Twitter feed: The first Yazoo single, Only You, has been chosen as the number 8 greatest ever pop song by the influential music paper NME, New Musical Express. Read on …

NME writes:

On the surface Alison Moyet and Vince Clarke were a startlingly mismatched pop couple. But together they crafted a synth pop classic.

It’s impossible do disagree … actually I would put all tracks from the Upstairs At Eric’s in that list.

Yazoo live at The Roundhouse

I attended the Short Circuit Mute Festival this weekend, and was lucky to watch Alison and Vince perform three songs together on stage – as well as Feargal Sharkey entering the scene to perform Never Never live together with Vince (for the first and only time as far as I know). Check out my video recording of Yazoo performing Ode To Boy after the jump…

The short Yazoo gig at The Roundhouse consisted of only three tracks; Nobody’s Diary, Ode To Boy and Don’t Go. I have the other videos coming up in the coming days.

Blackwing Studios today

While travelling to London and the Mute Short Circuit Festival, I took the oppertunity to visit All Hallows Church in southeast London – Pepper Street 1 to be exact. As You all know this was where the famous Blackwing Studios was located from the end of the 1970′s to 2001. The studios were owned by one Eric C. Radcliffe and both Yazoo-albums were recorded within these walls. See more pictures after the jump …

All Hallows Church was also the home of Vince Clarkes Splendid Studios as well as Reset Records. You can read all about Blackwing Studios, the equipment in the studio and All Hallows Church at Wikipedia.

Video: Don’t Go (2008)

Friday, May 16th, Yazoo performed together on stage for the very first time in 25 years. The historic event happened on British tv, on the programme Jonathan Ross Show.Vince and Alison performed a live version of ‘Don’t Go’. I’ve uploaded the clip on YouTube – watch it here.

Yazoo back together again

Happy days! Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet will go on tour in june this year, together as Yazoo. Five concerts are planned – all in UK – but hopefully the duo will play in Europe mainland too. More info at the new official Yazoo-website.

Also a 4-cd boxset called ‘In My Room’ is planned for release in may. The box contains digitally remastered versions of both Yazoo-albums, as well as a remix cd and a dvd featuring the videos for ‘Don’t Go’, ‘The Other Side Of Love’ and ‘Nobody’s Diary amongst others. A new interview featuring Alison and Vince is also included on the dvd.

We have waited 25 years for this…
